GREATER Springfield came together for a multicultural celebration on Sunday when the Diwali Festival of Lights was held at Brookwater Golf and Country Club.

Diwali is a hugely important holiday in India and it’s taken off here in Australia. The exciting event at Brookwater included a prize draw for return tickets for two to India with Singapore Airlines. There were stalls and fireworks ended the night with a bang.

Brookwater Residential general manager Narendran Sinnathamby said the Diwali Festival would continue to grow for residents of Greater Springfield and beyond. “The Diwali Festival of Lights is a great celebration that continues to attract more people each year,” Mr Sinnathamby said.

Diwali, often referred to as India’s most significant holiday, derives its name from the rows of clay lamps lit outside homes. These lamps symbolise the inner light that wards off spiritual darkness.
