OLIVE’S MEDALS: Of all the stories I covered playing a major role in 98-year-old Olive Pugh finally getting her War Medals is the story I cherish the most. The articles in this paper revealed her distinguished service and it prompted her family to ask why she didn’t receive any?

My role as the editor of Local Ipswich News will draw to a close next week.

As such I would like to use my final column to say it has been a pleasure to have had the opportunity to grow this paper to become the best-read weekly edition in the region.

Writing community stories and holding elected officials to account is the lifeblood of papers such as this one.

Over the past year I have enjoyed covering the issues and supporting the many community organisations of Ipswich.

Importantly many of the key headlines in this paper over the past year have centered on health and the improving services that have come and are coming to the area.

This paper is committed to continuing quality journalism and with your support will be around for many years to come.

Thank you for supporting me in this role as I move on to my next community related challenge.

I will not be lost to the district and please say hello if you happen to see me.

Wishing you and your family the very best.:
