THE festive season is here again so no doubt you’ll be wondering what to get the kids for presents this year.
Will it be socks, jocks or dolls and prams or puzzles to make them think, hard decisions indeed.
Just a few suggestions thinking outside the box for either boys or girls. Are they interested in gardening at all?
No matter what their age, do they like to get their hands dirty? Do they help you in your garden.
For the young ones, gardening gloves or a small set of gardening tools.
You can find small spades, buckets, hoe and rakes that they can try their hand at gardening or take to the beach when on holidays.
For those older, larger versions of the same thing or a small above ground garden complete with potting mix and some seeds to start them off, together with a gardening book showing the value in growing their own food or flowers for the house.
If they help in your garden, their own cutting implements like saw or secateurs.
There are many styles and types available to choose from.
Do they like orchids, a small pot with a flowering plant that they can look after in a special spot in their garden.
Grandchildren could be given a gift card that would enable them to buy what they would like to grow themselves.
They may already have a “patch” at home so a couple of different trays of vegetable plants to start them off or even a special potted tree or plant.
Over the years you’ve probably noticed that a lot of toys get discarded, break, run out of batteries or just get forgotten in the busy life we all lead.
Kids often have a short memory span and go onto other things; however these different sorts of gifts can have a lasting effect on their minds and maybe, just maybe get them interested in our planet and go onto greater things in life.
So, this year, maybe something different, no matter what the age, no matter if you’re a parent or grandparent, think outside the square and provide something that could lead to a change in their future.
