FORGET tickled pink – Goodna is tickled purple as the suburb bursts into bloom for its beloved Jacaranda Festival.
Along Brisbane Terrace, the historic trees are putting on their annual show – a dazzling canopy of lavender and lilac that turns heads and lifts spirits.
At Evan Marginson Park, carpets of fallen petals are already hinting that Festival time is near.
Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said the early spring warmth had coaxed the suburb’s famous blooms out early, setting the perfect stage for this weekend’s celebrations.
“The trees along Brisbane Terrace have once again heralded spring and the coming of the Goodna Jacaranda Festival,” Cr Tully said.
“Several of these iconic trees were planted back in 1932 by work gangs during the Great Depression. They’ve stood strong through floods, heatwaves and change – a living symbol of Goodna’s resilience.”
Many of those heritage beauties are now joined by fresh new plantings throughout the suburb – ensuring Goodna will stay purple for generations to come.
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic said this year’s Festival would be “bloomin’ marvellous”, with a weekend bursting with colour, culture and community spirit.
“It’s a time to relax under the trees, enjoy great food, music and company, and remember what makes this community so special,” Cr Jonic said.
Council has chipped in $5000 in Community Events funding and more than $8700 in in-kind support to help bring the event to life – covering essentials like portable toilets, traffic management and equipment.
Festival president Mathew Taylor said the event remained proudly community- driven.
“Community is at the heart of the Goodna Jacaranda Festival,” he said.
So grab your rug and a spot under the purple canopy.
The 2025 Goodna Jacaranda Festival will be held across this Friday and Saturday at Evan Marginson Park, Goodna.
