IT doesn’t take a genius to sell a house in Greater Springfield, says Kurt Cockburn, property guru at NGU Real Estate, but it’s not just about selling.
And Kurt should know. He’s part of the leading sales group in the area. But with a region where anyone could sell a property, why is Kurt even in a job? He explains that it’s all about the return. His job is all about maximising the return to the vendor.
“For me, it’s increasing the size of that cheque,” Kurt says.
For most outside the area, the name “Springfield” conjures up an image of a starter home for a young family. And certainly, that’s available in the Greater Springfield area. However, Kurt explains that what really strikes you about the region is the sheer variety of available properties.
If you want to live on a big block of acreage, you can find that in Augustine Heights. But if you want a smaller property, you can get a 300 sq m place in Spring Mountain. People come to Springfield for all sorts of reasons.
Kurt says, “Buyers want to move to the Brisbane area because of the growth in infrastructure. There’s a lot of new business being generated by the Olympic Games developments and Brisbane is a reasonable commute, particularly with the strong public transport links.”
But you don’t need to work in Brisbane or Ipswich, Kurt says. Ever since COVID, the increase in working from home has meant people can come to Springfield and get better value than they can closer to the Brisbane CBD – and enjoy a much better lifestyle.
Kurt lives in Augustine Heights himself. He’s a serial renovator, who’s hopped from one place to the next over past years, but now he’s settled. He chose Augustine Heights for its family feel – important to parents with a toddler. He says that he loves that his child could live their whole life in Greater Springfield. There’s every opportunity they might need, even university education.
And with the Mater bringing more hospital space to Springfield, maybe he’ll one day be the proud father of a doctor working not far from the family home.
