IPSWICH has produced sporting champions, celebrated extraordinary achievements and been built on the dedication of countless volunteers.
That is why Local Ipswich News is championing a vision to establish an Ipswich Sporting Hall of Fame, with an ambitious goal of welcoming its inaugural inductees at the 2027 Ipswich Sports Awards.
And following a recent meeting with Ipswich City Council officials, that vision is gathering momentum.
Our discussions initially focused on securing Ipswich’s rightful share of the opportunities, infrastructure and lasting legacy of Brisbane 2032.
But another conversation could reshape how our city celebrates its sporting past, present and future.
The creation of an Ipswich Sporting Hall of Fame.
Council’s encouraging response has strengthened our determination to turn this vision into reality, with 2027 firmly in our sights.
Because we are not simply reporting on the possibility of a Sporting Hall of Fame.
We intend to champion it, help drive its creation and advocate for its future.
An Ipswich Sporting Hall of Fame should become the sparkling jewel in the crown of a revitalised Ipswich Sports Awards in 2027.
Our annual awards already recognise outstanding sporting achievements, but there is an opportunity to elevate the occasion, strengthen its prestige and make it one of the most anticipated nights on Ipswich’s calendar.
As a genuinely local publication, proudly and unashamedly Ipswich, we believe our responsibility extends well beyond reporting the news.
We live here. We work here. We play here.
We celebrate this city’s victories, stand up for its interests and believe in protecting the stories that make Ipswich what it is.
We don’t just want to report on our city’s future. We want to help shape it.
A Hall of Fame will not build grandstands, repair playing fields or deliver new sporting facilities.
But it will build something just as valuable – civic pride, community identity and a lasting connection between generations.
Our goal is clear: make 2027 the year Ipswich finally begins giving its sporting legends the permanent recognition they deserve.
We want the inaugural Hall of Fame inductees honoured at the 2027 Ipswich Sports Awards, not as a token addition, but as the centrepiece of a renewed celebration that brings our sporting history to life.
There is plenty of work ahead, but every great sporting achievement begins with someone prepared to take the first step.
We have taken ours.
