AT 81 years of age Kevin Muller still has his abundant sense of humour, although I am sorry to tell him his good looks are starting to diminish.

That comment won’t please the “mower man,” as many know him, because he still says he can’t stop the women wanting to take him home.

As he was telling me this vital piece of information his wife of 60 years, Rose, just rolled her eyes and let the comment drift away into the crowded confines of his home lawn mower workshop.

The reason for my interview with the couple was to write about their 60th wedding anniversary and getting the facts out was no easy task as Kevin made play with his many jokes.

The couple are iconic business people in Ipswich having run two successful mower sales and repair shops for decades in the CBD.

They still look after some friends when their mowers refuse to start and finding parts for the repairs is the easiest part of any job.

Kevin has collected thousands of spares over the years, unfortunately only he knows where they are.

The couple married in Rosewood when Kevin was 21 and Rose 18 and while the passion may have cooled in recent times there is still a strong spark between them.

Kevin fell for Rose who was bowser attendant at the local Esso garage, while Rose said she was impressed with Kevin’s good looks and the fact he was a caring and loving person.

They continue to live life to the fullest going down occasionally to the local club for a meal and a small flutter.

Their expanded family also keeps them busy with five children, 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Have they had a few ups and downs over the years?

Rose got in first to answer that saying yes, quite a few, but her way around that was just to stop talking to Kevin until someone pops in to say hello or she just must.

Chalking up 60 years with the same person seems to say that her argument ploy works a treat.
