IT’S great news to hear that Howard Spall’s old house on the Brisbane Road and Macquarie Street corner in Booval will be restored.
This house had fallen into a dilapidated state, was ransacked by squatters, and appeared destined to be demolished.
New owners GJ Gardner Homes couple Jono and Ami are going to restore the iconic dwelling to its former glory and use it as a showroom office.
We wish them well on their venture, and I look forward to seeing this beautiful building brought back to life.

60 years married
Congratulations to Silkstone couple George and Thelma Martin who just celebrated 60 years of marriage.
The couple have lived in Ipswich all their life, and share three children, eight grandsons and two great granddaughters.
George spent his working life in hardware, beginning with ‘Mining and Hardware’ and finishing at Bunnings.
Thelma worked at the old Redbank Woollen Mills.
The couple also share the same birthday and recently celebrated their 85th birthdays. Well done on an amazing achievement and we trust you have more years to come.

Ipswich District Athlete Toby Stolberg won a gold medal in high jump at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad Tobago.
The St Peter’s Springfield student cleared the bar at an amazing 1.78m.
For many that means he can jump over your head.

Also, on sport congratulations to Ipswich Hockey players Jessica Wilkinson, Lani Blackman, Madiline Denny, Georgea Stenzel, Caleisha Harper, Abby Eleison who won Gold at the Hockey Australia Country Championships representing Hockey Queensland, and Zac Profke who won a bronze.

Steam Train ride
The Australian Railway Historical Society has announced a steam train will be travelling to Grandchester with passengers on September 3.
I’ve long thought this is a great concept and have been pushing to see regular steam train rides in our city.
