IPSWICH Hospice and the Rotary Club of Goodna recently celebrated the completion of the Hospice Guest Wing Access Pathway Upgrade Project.

The council’s Community Funding program and the Smartygrants community projects funding for 2023/2024 paid for the project, which was aimed to improve the safety and accessibility of the pathway from the Ambulance Bay to the Guest Wing entrance of the facility.

The previous pathway consisted of brick pavers and timber deck, which created an uneven surface that posed a safety risk and caused difficulty and discomfort for patients being transported from the ambulance bay to the guest wing. The old pathway was also hard to navigate for visitors who used mobility aids or wheelchairs. Moreover, this pathway was the emergency exit route.

The project involved the demolition of the ground-level veranda and decking, the removal of the existing paved pathway, and the installation of a concrete surface for both the ground level deck area and the pathway from the ambulance bay to the guest wing entrance.
