AT just 21 years of age, Hudson James continues to gain valuable experience in the highly competitive V8
SuperUtes Series, with the young Queenslander taking plenty of positives from a challenging weekend in Tasmania.

“It was a bit of an up-and-down weekend, but we eventually got there,” James said.

Competing in just his second round in the category, James said the racing intensity stepped up significantly compared to the opening round in Sydney.

“We were racing a lot harder in Tasmania compared to Sydney. I’m starting to understand the field and the level we’re competing at, so I was able to match that level a lot better throughout the weekend.”

The 21-year-old views 2026 as a development year as he adapts to a new category and builds experience against some of the country’s best emerging drivers.

“It’s going good. I’ve still got a long way to go and a lot to learn, but we’re heading in the right direction. I’m learning pretty quickly.”

Adding to the challenge is the fact James is tackling every circuit on the calendar for the first time.

“A massive challenge this year is that I’ve never been to any of the tracks we’re racing on, so every round is a completely new experience.”

Despite the steep learning curve, James has already shown promising pace, backing up a strong debut round in Sydney with another solid performance in Tasmania.

The next round of the V8 SuperUtes Championship will see racing returning to Perth in July before rounds in Bathurst, Gold Coast and Adelaide.

James also paid tribute to the sponsors helping keep him on track.
