IN 2017, after trading as Ipswich Independent Youth Service for 35 years, the organisation rebranded as inCommunity Inc.

Originally established in 1982 to address the needs of young people in Ipswich, including those experiencing homelessness.

Today, inCommunity has expanded to a comprehensive specialist housing and homelessness service.

Further to its government funded programs, inCommunity partners with Dignity to deliver the Dignity Food Relief Program for food relief in the Ipswich community. Via donations to its brand Beddown, partners with One Bridge to provide a mobile health service delivered by registered nurses to people experiencing homelessness in the Ipswich community.

Correction:
In the July 11-17, 2024 edition of Local Ipswich News, the page one story published an article referencing inCommunity as a new organisation, however its service delivery in homelessness commenced in 1982.

As Mayor Teresa Harding said in the article, inCommunity was among a number of groups who offered accommodation to people sleeping rough in the East Street, National Bank Building.

Local Ipswich News apologises for any comments published in that article that may have unintendedly questioned the integrity of the inCommunity service, whose achievements are noted above.

Responding to the article, inCommunity has written:

“In response to misinformation published in relation to the boarding up of alcoves at the National Australia Bank building on East Street and the impact to people sleeping rough.

“We specifically address Helen Youngberry’s comments.

“inCommunity Inc was established in 1982 supporting young people at risk of, or experiencing homelessness in the local Ipswich community.

“Since establishment inCommunity Inc has expanded to a comprehensive specialist housing and homelessness service.

“In 2022-23, our team provided a service to 6749 people, and in the last financial year our service has exceeded this number.”
