The annual Garage Sale Trail will be held all over Ipswich this weekend and the Ipswich Art Society is getting on board with this by having its own Garage Sale.
President of the Ipswich Art Society Jan Stolberg said it was a good way to kick off their Members Art Exhibition.
Jan said as artists we collect and hoard art materials, such as art books, magazines and easels and that having the garage sale was a good way to clear space in the studio and hopefully make some money to buy new materials.
It’s a bit of an obsession with artists she jokingly said.
There will be bargains for artists and art collectors.
The Art Society will be holding the garage sale and exhibition in the historic Old Ipswich Courthouse in East Street.
When the Courthouse was closed it was given by the State Government to creative groups for use as an artist hub and was originally classified as Old Courthouse Gallery and Cultural Association.
Apart from the Ipswich Art Society the Courthouse is home to many other art and cultural groups such as The Ipswich Photography Club, Minor Chords and the Ipswich Musical Society.
The building was first mainly used as an art gallery by the Art Society but hasn’t had an exhibition in the venue for nearly 10 years.
I’m excited to see Jan has taken the initiative to bring back art exhibitions and people to the Old Courthouse.
The Art Society exhibition will have 12 artists showcasing and selling artworks including paintings, miniatures, and gift cards.
The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 2pm and is free to everyone.
