THE NURSERY of athletes was on show at the Queensland All Schools Athletics Competition last weekend, headlined by Gout Gout and the stars of the Ipswich Grammar School nursery.
Teen sensation Gout Gout delivered a dominant performance on day three to storm home to a new All Schools record time of 10.31 in the 100m dash.
The second fastest under-20 sprinter in the world showed what he had serving up a time just short of his PB 10.29 achieved at this year’s world junior championships.
Just when the sporting world and fans thought this was a speedy performance, on the fourth and final day he lined up in the 200m with the weight of expectation on his shoulders and he delivered and then some.
Gout produced the fastest 200m time by an Australian since 1993 as the 16-year-old moved to No.4 on Australia’s all-time 200m list with a heat run of 20.29 seconds and finishing in 20.52 in the final to secure the championship record.
A long list of Ipswich based sporting talent also proved dominant highlighted by the following results.
In the throwing events, WestMac’s Ruby Bohen demolished the under-15 girls javelin record with a throw of 45.92m.
St Peter’s Lutheran product Allira Takau’s put in a record breaking 16.32m effort in the under-18 shot put, smashing the old 14.79m record of decorated Ipswich athlete Charlize Goody.
The tournament at QSAC opened with St Mary’s own Leah Leembruggen winning the first event of the competition for Ipswich in the under-15 hurdles, the 14-year-old finished in 29.40 seconds.
The wins kept coming for the region with St Peters Lutheran’s Addison Farinazzo, finishing the 16 years 200m hurdles in a zippy 28.42 seconds.
The success for Farinazzo continued day two when she took out the 90m hurdles in 12.88 seconds.
Ipswich Grammar took further gold on day two, with Thomas Purcell winning the 100m under 16 hurdles event, while his brother Harrison took the title in the 18 years hurdles in a time of 14.20.
The championships serve as a stepping stone toward qualifying for the Australian All Schools track and field championships to be held next month.
