IPSWICH bands were once again well represented in the original Hot 100 songs counted down by 4ZZZ on Sunday.
Usually held on New Year’s Day, 4ZZZ held the countdown on Sunday to mark its 50th anniversary, the station’s first broadcast taking place on December 8, 1975 from a hand-built transmitter in a DIY studio at the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus.
Banshees Bar & Artspace held one of the three official listening parties on Sunday.
Ipswich band The Distained followed up their triumphant second place in last year’s Hot 100 with their song Slamdanceathon with a number 18 placing this year for Conceal.
The Double Happiness came in at number 36 with their song Sister Bertrille.
The band is fronted by Ipswich 4ZZZ announcer Kristin Black of the station’s popular show Heyday and includes her husband, guitarist from Ipswich legends Splat Acrobat, Peter Fergusson.
The Leads followed their number 28 in last year’s Hot 100 for their song Trace, about the Deebing Creek Mission, with a number 75 placing this year for their song Already Gone.
Already Gone is penned by the band’s multi-award-winning Ipswich singer-songwriter James Grehan.
The Leads also features St Ann’s Redbank Plains music teacher Kellie Holmes and Local Ipswich News editor Brian Bennion.
Ipswich-based country-folk-blues artist Damien J Johnson followed up his number 43 in last year’s Hot 100 for I Don’t Listen To The Radio with number 86 this year for One Hill Town.
One Hill Town also reached the Australian Top 40 Country Charts and secured a spot in the Top 30 on the Tasmanian music charts for three consecutive weeks.
2025 was a big year for Johnson, who was also a Grand Finalist in this year’s Australian Country Music Stars competition.
Another Ipswich band Wuss came in at number 94 for their song Escalate.
