SUBURBAN streets have lit up with festive spirit throughout Ipswich with spectacular Christmas lights displays.

The winners of the Ipswich City Council’s Christmas Lights competition will be announced on December 12 in Tulmur Place.

Perennial winners Mick and Kym Watkins are back in the game this year after a one-year break from Christmas lights.

The Raceview couple have decorated their home at 36 Mahogany St for years in a display the Griswolds would be jealous of.

They took out the People’s Choice award for 2018-19 in the Christmas Lights competition and Best Resi-dential 2020-2021 and 2023.

Mr Watkins said it took the household five months of preparation to set up the display and two months to pull it down.

“Seeing the looks on the kids faces makes it all worthwhile,” he said. “As long as they are enjoying themselves it makes all the effort worth it.”
