IPSWICH FC opened its FQPL1 season with a well-earned 3-1 victory over Logan Lightning at Briggs Road Sporting Complex on Saturday night.
The home side started strongly, with Ben Piper finding the back of the net in just the third minute, giving Ipswich the early lead.
However, Logan Lightning responded quickly, as Thomas Lumer equalised in the 11th minute, ensuring a competitive start to the game.
As the first half progressed, both teams battled for control, and just before halftime, Ipswich FC regained its advantage with Jac Parrott scoring in the 45th minute, sending his team into the break with a 2-1 lead.
The second half saw intense play from both sides, with Logan Lightning’s Jack Pirone picking up a yellow card in the 54th minute.
Both teams made several substitutions to maintain momentum, but Ipswich remained in control.
Its efforts were rewarded in the 81st minute when Piper netted his second goal of the night, securing a 3-1 lead and putting the result beyond doubt.
Late substitutions from both teams added fresh legs to the match, but Ipswich FC held firm to see out its victory.
The win marks an important result for Ipswich FC in the FQPL 1 competition as it begins its campaign with confidence.
The Ipswich outfit finished last season 10th in the 12-team league, with five wins and five losses.
It will now look to make it two from two in 2025, when it travels down the M1 on Saturday to take on Broadbeach United, with kick-off set for 3pm at Nikforides Family Park.
