FEATURE racing took centre stage at the Queensland Greyhound Racing Club last week, where a packed program delivered standout performances from some of the state’s most exciting chasers, including Fire Me Up, Canya Romance and surprise packet Goldstar Prada.
Fire Me Up, a Bernardo x Fire On Ice chaser, again showed what he has in the tank with a strong victory in the Ipswich Derby Final over 457m.
The classy sprinter took home the $45,000 feature after beating Miles On It and track record holder Grevillea, confirming his place among Queensland’s top young greyhounds.
Canya Romance continued her outstanding form in the Ipswich Futurity Final, also over 457m, notching her sixth consecutive win.
The Bernardo x Opal Rocks chaser started as the $2.60 favourite and delivered as expected, finishing ahead of the Tom Tzouvelis-trained pair Zipping Lipa and Zipping Lee to secure the $45,000 race.
There was a major upset in the Breast Cancer Cup Open over 642ms, with $20 outsider Goldstar Prada landing the feature.
Trained by Riley Evans, the Federal Morgan x Goldstar Journey chaser made it two wins from as many starts over the distance, defeating the heavily backed $1.60 favourite Firethorn to claim the $18,500 event.
The night’s results underlined the strength and depth of Queensland racing talent, with emerging stars and seasoned performers alike putting on a show.
