The latest Queensland Budget held some good news for Ipswich Hockey when they received $250,000 to replace an end-of-life playing surface and improve the quality and safety of the Ipswich Hockey Field.
State Member for Ipswich and Patron of Ipswich Hockey, Jennifer Howard said it was a great recognition by the government of the importance of fostering youth participation in sport.
“Ipswich Hockey is integral to the community with generations of Ipswich families connected to the club,” she said.
“By supporting our young athletes today, we are investing in the future sporting legends of tomorrow, ensuring they have the best possible opportunities to succeed.
“I want to be watching the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane and witnessing the athletes from Ipswich triumphantly claim gold medals for Australia.
“Ipswich boasts a strong record of sporting legends and I know there are many future Olympians in the making right here in our great City.”
Ms Howard last week hosted Ipswich’s inaugural Championing Women in Sport event at which 150 people attended.
“We will need a bigger venue next year because it sold out in the first week,” she said.
“I’m committed to showcasing our great athletes and to encouraging young people to pursue their sporting dreams,” Ms Howard said.
