OUR city has a long and proud association with rail travel with the first ever rail line in Queensland between Ipswich and Grandchester.

It’s always good to see old steam engines grace our tracks, and last week an old steam engine made a couple of trips to Grandchester.

Great to hear QR has plans to have further trips in the upcoming months, so keep a lookout.

The flood waters rushed under the CBD Bridge and cascaded into the city centre just 12 months ago.

A YEAR ago this week our city was inundated with the worst flood since 2011 as the Bremer and Brisbane Rivers burst their banks and caused extensive damage.

Many houses were inundated with floodwater and the Government has started rolling out their voluntary buy back and flood resilience program.

With some properties experiencing their 3rd flood in 11 years it had to b done and hopefully flood affected areas will no longer receive building developments approved.

Our city is still recovering with the Riverheart Parklands and Colleges Crossing Reserve still fenced off to the public.

Congratulations to Ipswich Touch champion Jake Notley on making the Australian Open Touch Team to take on NZ in April.

Jake is following in his dad Scott’s footsteps who captained Australia for many years.

Jake is a great ambassador to the sport and freely gives his time to help with the Ipswich Falcons junior teams. All the best Jake you are a champion.

With Autumn now upon us winter sports are beginning their seasons.

Ipswich basketball began competition last week with 160 junior teams in action.

The various football codes in Ipswich have been training for the upcoming season and many have had trial matches.

The Ipswich Jets boys 16s, 18s and ladies 19s began their season on the weekends enjoying success at the Sunshine Coast.

I love footy season and looking forward to attending many games across the city.

Finally I’d like to acknowledge Natalia Onoprichuk the GM of CSI on picking up a national manager award.

Natalia is the current Chamber of Commerce ‘Business person of the year’ and the humble manager deserves the accolades she receives.

Well done Nat and thank you for all you do in our community.

Have a great week and support local.
