THE Ipswich Jets are set to continue their rich tradition as a powerhouse in developing rugby league talent, with a promising line-up of rising stars ready to take the field in the 2025 season.
Across various age groups, young Jets are primed to make their mark and push for higher honours.
CYRIL CONNELL CUP
The Jets’ U17 squad has a strong track record, and 2025 looks no different, with the team’s season kicking off on February 15 against the Wide Bay Bulls.
Look out for speedy outside back Ira Yeatman, who excels in playmaking, and Harry Vidler, a dual-sport standout who shines in both league and union.
The forward pack will be led by the dominant Innocent Baruani, known for his humility and raw power, and Tomasi Vaitai, a solid forward with experience from the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
U19 MAL MENINGA CUP
Following a strong showing in last year’s Mal Meninga Cup, the Jets’ U19 squad is eyeing a deeper run this season, beginning with a tough encounter against the Burleigh Bears on February 8.
Standout players to watch include powerful fullback Isaiah Pene, utility player Nathan Fraser – a Queensland Cup prospect – and Marlon Frost, a fast and agile player with a background in rugby sevens.
Reeco Kirk, known for his lethal high kick and smart game sense, will also be one to watch.
HARVEY NORMAN UNDER-17S WOMEN
The U17 women’s team boasts a talented crop of players who have already impressed in both school and representative competitions.
Jazmyn Brennan-Rowe, a dynamic halves player, will form a dangerous pairing with her sister Tamika.
Forward Emilee George, with Queensland representative experience, is another key player, alongside inspirational captain Emalini Waqairatu, who represents Met West.
Ella O’dea, who was awarded Best Forward at Ipswich State High School in 2024, is also a standout after her contributions to the school’s national championship win.
HARVEY NORMAN UNDER-19S WOMEN
The U19 women’s squad is brimming with national and international talent.
Kaiah Hansell, who scored a hat-trick in Ipswich SHS’s NRL National Schoolgirls title win, is one of the key players.
Sifa Leapai, a powerful forward with exceptional tackle-breaking ability, and Ella-Jaye Harrison-Leaunoa, a key playmaker for Goodna Eagles and Samoa international, will also lead the charge for the Jets in what promises to be an exciting campaign.
TRIALS AND PRE-SEASON ACTION
As the season approaches, fans will get a glimpse of the future during trials on Saturday, February 1 at Toowoomba Valleys Rugby League Football Club.
The Jets will compete against their rivals, the Western Clydesdales, in a series of games, including the U17s, U19s, Cyril Connell Cup, and Mal Meninga Cup teams.
The Hostplus Cup Ipswich Jets will also face two opponents in pre-season games at North Ipswich Reserve, taking on the Western Clydesdales on February 8 and the Redcliffe Dolphins on February 15.
These games will help the team gear up for the regular season and offer fans a preview of the exciting action to come.
