Ipswich State High School continued its winning streak in the Langer Cup competition, beating Redcliffe State High 24-16 last week.

The win on the road at Kayo Stadium at Redcliffe made it four straight for the season to keep the team’s unbeaten run intact.

The first half started in the best possible way, with the Ipswich pack on top, crossing twice in the first four minutes for 12 unanswered points.

The home side scored its first points in the 11th minute with winger Khan Turnbull scoring, but Ipswich responded in trademark fashion to push the lead out even further.

Five-eighth Reeco Kirk continues to impress, crossing twice in the win, while fullback Tom Parker maintained his consistency with the boot in converting four from four.

“We were excellent in the first half,” head coach Josh Bretherton said.

“Some errors and penalties meant we had to do a lot of defending in the second half. It’s excellent to be four from four.”

After its 24-12 round three win against Wavell State High, the head coach feared some injury troubles, but fortunately things were not as grim as anticipated.

“We have been lucky,” he said.

“No long-term injuries, which is amazing.”

The next round will be after school holidays when the team returns home to North Ipswich Reserve to host the talented Keebra Park High.

The well-known Gold Coast rugby league nursery will also go into that clash undefeated after beating Marsden State in a close 20-18 battle last week.

In that win, prop Zac Kumbamong scored twice, showcasing the talent that has seen him re-signed to the Gold Coast Titans through until 2026.

“We have those three weeks off now for school holidays so some much-needed rest,” Bretherton said.

“Keebra will be a tough challenge – they are also going very well.”
