STUDENTS from The Industry School’s Ipswich campus rolled up their sleeves last week to give back to the community, partnering with commercial painting company Higgins Coatings to deliver a fresh new look for Ipswich Meals on Wheels.

The project at the Meals on Wheels facility on South St formed part of The Industry School’s “Gift of Giving” program, an initiative designed to combine community service with practical trade training.

The hands-on initiative not only provides important maintenance support for the local charity but also gives students valuable real-world experience working alongside a major industry partner. The Industry School said the project reflected the organisation’s commitment to teaching students more than just technical skills.

“This project perfectly illustrates the strength of our educational model,” said The Industry School’s Ipswich campus Principal Andrew Want.

Year 10 student Alicia Brennan said it felt good to help out Meals on Wheels.

“They support our community so much, and this is our way of paying it forward,” she said.

Year 10 student Harrison Korunich said it was great to be a part of the community project.

“Two of my grandparents actually use Meals on Wheels.”
