GET ready, Ipswich – the city is about to get a serious dose of grit, sweat, and glory.

Thousands of the world’s toughest athletes are descending on Ivory’s Rock in Peak Crossing this May for four days of endurance, mud, and triumph, as the 2026 OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) Community World Championships and Spartan Trifecta Weekend take over.

It’s not just your average jog in the park. Competitors will scramble, crawl, and leap through everything from 80m sprint challenges to a 15km battle against hills, mud, and obstacles designed to push even the most fearless.

And for team players, there’s a 6km relay where strategy matters almost as much as strength.

“It will be an epic four days as the best in endurance racing tackle the courses at Ivory’s Rock,” said Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding, who’s fully backing the $50,000 Ipswich City Council sponsorship.

“Hosting these events solidifies Ipswich’s reputation as a destination for elite-tier sport – and let’s be honest, there’s something electric about watching people throw themselves at mud pits for glory,” Mayor Harding said.

The OCR Community World Championships are making history as the first edition held outside the Northern Hemisphere, while the Spartan Trifecta Weekend returns for its second run in Ipswich after 2600 competitors turned up last year – most from far beyond the city limits.

Cr Pye Augustine said the events aren’t just good fun – they’re good business.

“We’re expecting 4000 athletes and 2000 spectators across the four days,” Cr Augustine said.

“That’s a major boost for tourism, local cafes, hotels, and maybe even a few muddy souvenir shops.”

Whether you’re a fitness fanatic, a weekend warrior, or someone who just enjoys watching humans tackle impossible obstacles, Ipswich is about to be ground zero for adrenaline, laughs, and a little bit of chaos – the Spartan way.
