THE Ipswich Showgrounds turned back time to when rock ’n’ roll ruled and Austin Powers grooved with its Rockabilly and Retro twilight carnival.

Swingabilly Ray entertained the crowds with non-stop music that saw many bust a move on the dance floor, along with Chrissy from the Lindy Charm school, there to help create the perfect hairstyle for the ladies and turn them into the pin-up they always wanted to be.

Ipswich showed up in full force, with over 3000 people through the gates, and the atmosphere was electric from start to finish.

The crowd was certainly entertained – with stunning pin-up parades, rock ’n’ roll dancing, market stalls with art, craft and preloved treasures, food vans, licensed bar, side show rides, games and more.

The crowd was certainly spoilt for all things retro, and you certainly can’t forget the cars with the classic car show and shine, from sports to classic, from pick-up to cruiser. There was so much to admire.

The pin-up parade was certainly a crowd pleaser, with entrants grooving to the tunes of the 50s and 60s, with a special appearance from Austin Powers himself. It was certainly a tough decision for the judges, with the announcement of first place winner going to Billiejean Sweet, runner-up going to Bambi Pither and the people’s choice going to 11-year-old Little Miss Unicorn. Congratulations to all the entrants.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the of the pin-up, classic car and rock ’n’roll communities, whose passion and energy truly helped bring this event to life.

Until the next one, keep on rockin’.
