IPSWICH has thrown its support behind two more upcoming events set to increase pride and community spirit.
Ipswich City Council will sponsor the 2025 Netball Queensland State Age Championships and the Celebrate ’25 at Tivoli Drive-in event.
Economic and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Councillor Pye Augustine said both events were significant to the city, bringing the community together and strengthening the economy.
“The netball state championships will see Limestone Park buzzing from Saturday, April 12 to Tuesday, April 15,” Cr Augustine said.
“It’s predicted that more than 2200 participants will take part in the competition; 99% of whom will visit from outside our region.
“The Ipswich economy is set to gain more than $2.5 million as players, coaches, umpires and supporters gather to watch and compete for the Queensland title. Local businesses will benefit greatly, with Ipswich accommodation providers, food and drink vendors, security and first aid services being engaged to support the event.”
Cr Augustine said the council was also sponsoring the Tivoli Drive-In New Year’s Eve event, which has become an annual tradition for families as they come along to enjoy the festivities and fireworks.
“On the final night of 2024, Ipswich families can once again come together to enjoy wonderful performances, food and family-friendly activities at one of Australia’s last remaining drive-in theatres,” she said.
“The free celebration attracts about 5000 people to enjoy food trucks, markets, rides, displays from emergency services and entertainment.
“Those in aged care facilities across Ipswich also tune in to watch as the festivities are broadcast especially for them.”
Eighteen Ipswich not-for-profit organisations will share in $46,500 in funding to support community events right across Ipswich from Ipswich City Council’s Community Events Funding.
