TOURISM remains a major driver of Ipswich’s $13 billion economy, contributing $461 million last year through unique attractions and experiences.
As the Federal Election approaches, both major parties are emphasising investment in the sector.
Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann highlighted the Government’s ongoing support for tourism infrastructure.
“The Federal Government will continue to assist and deliver upgrades to our facilities, venues, and infrastructure,” Mr Neumann said.
“This term, I have delivered $20 million for the North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct to attract NRL and A-League fixtures and concerts, $11 million for Willowbank Raceway upgrades, and $3.8 million for the expansion of the Ipswich Civic Centre and Art Gallery.”
Mr Neumann also pointed to funding through the Revive Live and Live Music Australia programs, including $69,300 for CMC Rocks and over $7000 for Banshees Bar & Artspace.
“I have delivered millions for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, Studio 188, Robelle Domain Parklands, and Orion Lagoon, plus $3.3 million for the Corporate Centre at North Ipswich,” he said.
LNP candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, has also placed tourism at the forefront of his campaign, stressing the region’s untapped potential.
“Ipswich and Somerset are often underestimated as tourist destinations,” Mr Mutzelburg said.
“Some of our greatest attractions include the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, Queens Park Nature Centre, the Railway Workshops, Queensland Pioneer Railway, and Esk Caravan Park.”
Mr Mutzelburg emphasised his personal commitment to the sector.
“I have personally visited all of these attractions and can say firsthand how impressive they are,” he said.
“Tourism is a key economic driver, which is why the Dutton-led Liberal National team is focused on improving infrastructure, attractions, accessibility, and services to boost global tourism appeal.”
He also pledged support for local tourism operators.
“I’ve been working with organisations like the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway to explore ways to secure their long-term future,” he said.
“I’ve also spoken with the Shadow Tourism Minister about practical outcomes for Ipswich, particularly improvements to Nerima Gardens.”
Infrastructure is another priority for Mr Mutzelburg.
“I have been advocating for upgrades to local infrastructure, including the $20 million funding commitment I secured last week for the Brisbane Valley Highway.”
With both candidates focusing heavily on tourism, the sector is set to be a key issue in the upcoming election.
