IPSWICH & District Athletics Club delivered an exceptional performance at the Queensland Track & Field Championships earlier this month, bagging an impressive 25 gold, 25 silver, and 23 bronze medals across a dominant four-day campaign.
A number of competitors have now qualified for the Australian 2026 Track & Field Championships, with Open and Para events set to take place in Sydney from April 9-12, followed by the 13-19 age group championships in Brisbane from April 15-20.
A clear highlight from the meet was Hudson Severinsen competing out of his age group.
The U15 athlete stepped up to claim gold in the U17 hammer throw using a 5kg implement – despite only competing with a 4kg implement in his own division – underlining his exceptional strength and potential.
Severinsen also took gold in both shot put and discus events.
Conditions throughout the championships were challenging at times, with gale-force winds impacting competition.
In response, officials made the decision to change the direction of the 100m and 200m starts to give athletes the best possible chance to record competitive times.
Among the standout performers, Khloe Morrell (U13) claimed double gold in the 100m and 200m, while also securing silver in the high jump.
Charlotte Roche (U13) delivered a remarkable meet, winning both the 80m hurdles and long jump, alongside bronze medals in the 100m and 200m – all in personal best times.
In middle-distance events, Liliana Titley (U14) dominated with gold in the 1500m and silver in the 800m, while Olive Barrett (U14) and Layla Ashby (U14) showed strong performances in highly competitive fields.
Sasha Josipovic (U17) impressed with silver in the 1500m and bronze in the 2000m steeplechase, both featuring personal best efforts.
Field events also saw exceptional results, with Slater Walsh (U13) achieving a dominant double gold in discus and shot put, while Clara Josipovic (U13) secured gold in shot put and double silver in discus and javelin.
In the older age groups, Christina Tukuafu (U17) claimed discus gold with a personal best throw, and Ruby Bohen (U17) took out javelin gold.
On the track, Leah Leembruggen (U17) claimed gold in the 100m hurdles with a personal best, while Natalie Lang (U17) achieved personal bests across multiple sprint events.
In the senior ranks, Claire Gouws (Open) secured gold in the triple jump with a personal best, while Erin Wright (Open) took bronze in the 100m hurdles.
Para-athletes delivered equally inspiring performances, with Hayden White (T/F37) claiming gold in both the 400m and 800m, alongside silver in the 200m, while Isabelle Schodde (T/F60) secured double gold in discus and shot put.
With numerous medals, personal bests, and national qualifiers, the meet set a strong platform ahead of the upcoming nationals.
