FOR more than a century, Zonta International has worked to empower women and girls through education, advocacy and leadership opportunities.
Now, the Zonta Club of Ipswich is continuing that mission locally with the launch of its 2026 Women in Business Leadership Award.
The award offers a $1000 prize to an outstanding Ipswich woman aged between 18 and 35 and is designed to recognise emerging female leaders making a difference in business and the broader community.
Zonta Club of Ipswich President Jane Reid said the award was about more than financial support and is creating opportunities and celebrating women helping shape the future of their industries and communities.
“This award is a powerful platform for the women in Ipswich who are redefining leadership,” Ms Reid said.
“Through these initiatives, we support women in business, women working in STEM, women starting out in trades and women acting as community leaders.”
Ms Reid said visibility was a key part of creating change and encouraging more women to pursue business, education and leadership opportunities.
“The Zonta Awards program actively seeks to eliminate barriers,” she said.
“For many women, aspiring to start their own business or pursue further education may not feel within reach, because you can’t be what you can’t see.
“Supporting these women is both an investment in the future of our city and an opportunity to inspire the next generation of female entrepreneurs, changemakers and start-ups.”
The initiative forms part of Zonta’s global commitment to advancing the professional, economic and educational status of women, with the international organisation long recognised for supporting women through scholarships, leadership programs and advocacy campaigns worldwide.
Locally, the Ipswich club hopes the award will shine a spotlight on women who are redefining leadership through innovation, ethical business practices and social impact.
The award recognises women who demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit, professional excellence and a commitment to addressing issues affecting women and girls or promoting climate justice, values closely aligned with Zonta International’s global focus areas.
Successful Ipswich applicants will also progress as finalists for the Zonta District 22 Award, which covers Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
Applications for the Ipswich award close on June 29 – applicants must submit a completed application form, a written essay, proof of employment or study enrolment, and two professional letters of recommendation.
