LOCAL small businesses are the backbone of any community and economy.
Our local businesses are responsible for tens of millions of dollars getting put back into our circular economy and the employment of thousands.
If a business shuts it means people lose jobs which means those families affected have to tighten their budget which puts pressure on our economy.
Sometimes those of us that have government jobs and have a secure income take for granted that we receive regular pay each week, regardless of weather and external influences.
I take my hat off to anyone that has taken the plunge to start a business and especially those that have survived the test of time.
Sadly, Stacey Gleeson’s dream with her Pretzel Shop in the CBD mall didn’t come to pass and she made the painful decision to shut her doors last week after just over four months in business.
Hospitality is a fickle business at the best of time, and when times are tough, take away, eating out and treats are amongst the first things that we forego to make ends meet.

LOCAL LEAGUE SEASON
We have three rugby league clubs in Ipswich that are over 100 years old in Goodna, West End and Swifts.
It was a pleasure to be at Swifts season launch on Friday night and see their senior teams named for the year ahead.
They are playing in a replica jersey from their 1993 grand final side, with former player from that team Wayne Finch the current A grade coach.
The Rugby League Ipswich senior season kicked off Saturday with Swifts beating Fassifern and Norths beating Redbank Plains.
Congrats to the U19 women’s Ipswich Jets rugby league team who have finished their home season undefeated, and look set to take out the competition.
Well done to Coach Ronnie and her talented team including Ipswich High players Shalom Sauaso and Tiresa Elika.
