Its message of light triumphing over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil is especially powerful at a time when our world is witnessing so much conflict, division, and suffering.
While Diwali has its origins in India, its traditions and values have enriched communities far beyond its borders, including our own here in Ipswich.
Our vibrant Indian community contributes enormously to the social, cultural, and economic life of our city.
Through their businesses, professions, community leadership, and generosity of spirit, they help make Ipswich a more diverse, welcoming, and connected place.
Over the years, Diwali has become a much-loved part of Ipswich’s cultural calendar, bringing people of all backgrounds together in celebration and friendship.
It is a wonderful reminder that embracing each other’s traditions enriches us all.
Above all, Diwali offers a message of hope: that even in the darkest times, light can prevail.
I extend my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Diwali. May it bring happiness, prosperity, and peace to you and your loved ones.
