JOHN MUSTERS’ artistic journey kicked off some 45 years ago – for a short period just for something to do in between studies and work commitments.

Mainly using oils and watercolours, he surprised himself with how good some of them actually turned out, and he still has most of them adorning his walls at home.

With a background in architecture, gaining his Architectural Drafting Certificate during 1974-78 and topping his class in his first year, this background allowed John to use his design skill, with emphasis on perspective and scale.

It allowed him to complete much presentation work and model making.

With no formal art training, John is self-taught, learning much from tutorials, fellow artists, and workshops, and he experiments a lot.

John completes his art with a “trial and error” motto.

With a passion for Impressionism, John loves buildings, reflective of his architectural and design background, but he doesn’t limit himself and explores all styles and subjects including landscape, seascape, still life, figurative and, of course, architectural.

Currently working on a new body of work of local hotels, which showcases amazing design, architecture and historical meaning for Ipswich and surrounds, John seeks to explore the dynamic interplay between light and form and the intricate geometry and shifting perspective, which serves as a wellspring of inspiration, inviting a dialogue between the transient and the enduring.

Through his architectural eye, John endeavours to reveal hidden patterns and rhythms that underlie both the natural and the constructed environments. He invites the viewer to consider not just the aesthetic dimension of space, but also its capacity to evoke emotion and memory.

Like all artists, John says his home is like a gallery and as a fellow artist, I don’t see that as a problem at all.

We should all surround ourselves with things that mean something, that give purpose and satisfaction. Although he looks at his art as a hobby, it is also a way of staying connected and having a purpose.

With his art displayed and for sale in a few locations including Limestone Street Gallery, and The Booval Fair Arts Connect Community Gallery in Booval Shopping Fair, John will also be opening a monthly market soon.

Discover more about John and his art journey at the Booval Fair Arts Connect Community Gallery each Thursday, or via mobile 0408 730 487.
