IPSWICH’S own Jude Thomas is continuing to make a name for himself on the Australian athletics scene, cementing his place as one of the top middle-distance runners in the country.

The 23-year-old returned home earlier this month following a successful stint in the US, where he underlined his potential with impressive results in international competitions.

During his US trip, Thomas ran an indoor 5000m in Boston in a time of 13:09.36, to go with a strong 3:51.19 performance in a mile race in Seattle.

These results have placed him in the top five in Australia for both events, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force in the sport.

A product of St Edmund’s College in Ipswich, Thomas has been on the radar since his school years.

By the age of 20, he had already secured back-to-back Australian 3000m titles, after setting an Australian Under-20 record in 2021 with a time of 7:52.11.

His momentum continued in 2022 when he claimed the first of his 3000m golds with a time of 7:47.26, successfully defending his title in 2023 with a 7:48.25.

Thomas’s personal bests are impressive, with standout performances including a 1500m time of 3:37.01 in May 2024, a 3000m best of 7:42.30 in December 2024, and a 5000m best of 13:33.60 in February 2024.

Looking ahead, Thomas is focused on future championships, including the Sydney Track Classic and the Australian Nationals in Perth, after which he hopes to showcase his talent on the world’s biggest stages.

At the Sydney Classic Meet, Thomas will be competing in the 3000m which doubles as the Australian title event.

With his consistency and ability to perform under pressure, Thomas is poised to continue making waves.
