KAMBU Health is celebrating its 50th year by laying the foundations for its future, with construction officially underway on a new Children and Family Centre in Silkstone.

The landmark project marks a significant new chapter for one of Ipswich’s most important Indigenous organisations, expanding culturally safe healthcare and family services for First Nations children and families across the region while reinforcing Kambu’s commitment to supporting generations to come.

Kambu Health Board Chair Allan Fisher said this project marked a significant milestone in Kambu Health’s 50-year journey of caring for the community.

“It represents hope, opportunity and a stronger future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families across our region,” he said.

“This new purpose-built centre will provide a safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive place where children can learn, grow and reach their full potential while families receive the support they need during those important early years.”

The Federal Government has committed $5.56 million towards the project, which will see a purpose-built Children and Family Centre constructed at 4 Madden St, Silkstone, alongside the refurbishment of Kambu’s existing health clinic on Roderick Street in Ipswich. Kambu has contributed a further $2 million to the development.

Kambu Health supports communities stretching from Springfield, Ripley and Ipswich through to Boonah, Esk and Gatton.

Mr Neumann said he was proud to have secured funding for the project.

“This much-needed facility will mean medical and allied health specialists can provide a holistic service to children, including health checks, as they prepare to start school,” he said.

“We will keep working with Kambu, and the new Children and Family Centre is part of our commitment to improving health, well-being and future opportunities for First Nations children and families.”
