KAMBU Health celebrated a major milestone on Saturday night, marking its 50th anniversary with a gala dinner at the Ipswich Showgrounds.
The event brought together community members, Elders, staff, partners and supporters to celebrate 50 years of Aboriginal community-controlled health care – a milestone that reflects five decades of advocacy, leadership and cultural strength.
Guests reflected on Kambu Health’s remarkable journey since its founding in 1976, when local leaders recognised the urgent need for culturally safe healthcare.
What began in a room inside Doreen Thompson’s home, where visiting Brisbane doctors provided weekly support, has grown into one of the region’s leading Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
