IN 2026, Kambu Health proudly marks 50 years of delivering culturally safe, community-led healthcare and social services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across the Ipswich and West Moreton region.

The Roderick St site was founded in 1976, and Kambu Health has grown from humble beginnings into a comprehensive primary healthcare service grounded in the belief: Our People – Our Community – Our Health – Our Way.

Kambu Health’s Ipswich Medicare Bulk-Billing Clinic welcomes all patients and families seeking quality, culturally responsive care.

With no out-of-pocket costs for standard GP consultations, the service continues its long-standing commitment to reducing barriers to healthcare access.

Over the past five decades, Kambu Health has expanded to provide a wide range of services including general practice, chronic disease management, maternal and child health programs, social and emotional wellbeing support, allied health, preventative health initiatives, and community programs.

As the organisation celebrates this major milestone, Board Chair Allan Fisher reflected on the legacy and future of Kambu Health.

“For 50 years, Kambu Health has stood strong because it belongs to community,” Mr Fisher said.

“Our Elders laid the foundation so our people could access healthcare that respects culture, values family, and understands our lived experiences.

“As we celebrate this anniversary, we honour those who came before us and recommit to the next generation.”

Mr Fisher said Kambu Health would continue to grow, innovate and advocate to ensure the community receives the care it deserves.

“Kambu Health is for all First Nation people in Ipswich and West Moreton, whilst we respect all Traditional Owners on the lands on which we operate, we are independent,” he said.

The 50th Anniversary is not just a celebration of longevity, but of impact.

Thousands of families have walked through Kambu Health’s doors over the decades – supported through births, chronic illness, health checks, vaccinations, counselling, social services, and preventative programs.

Kambu Health’s Ipswich Clinic remains central to its service delivery, providing a trusted space where community members feel seen, heard, and respected.

As healthcare continues to evolve, Kambu Health remains focused on innovation and expansion – strengthening partnerships, investing in workforce development, and ensuring services remain accessible and culturally grounded.

Community members are encouraged to book appointments and experience the care that has supported generations.

Kambu Health is a Medicare Bulk-Billing Clinic and welcomes all patients.

For 50 years and counting, Kambu Health continues to walk alongside community — delivering healthcare that is not only clinically excellent, but culturally strong.
