THE rain came pouring down at Q1 Lakeside last Thursday night, but it did little to dampen the excitement as two thrilling Group finals delivered drama, determination and a boilover at the Purga track.
With the 457-metre circuit soaked by relentless rain, the Group Three Ipswich Derby and Futurity Finals shared the spotlight in a memorable night of greyhound racing.
Koby Stuns Favourites In Derby Boilover
THE Group Three Ipswich Derby Final produced the biggest upset of the night when $25 outsider Koby Keeping defied the odds to claim a dramatic victory in a blanket finish.
First contested in 2005, the prestigious race delivered another chapter of racing history as the field charged from the boxes.
Koby Keeping exploded away to grab the early lead, with heavily backed $1.40 favourite Aston Missile hugging the rails and $31 outsider Vermentino joining the pursuit.
Dalgety ($8.60) and Shout Out Shazam ($20) launched late challenges, leaving spectators and connections waiting anxiously as officials turned to the photo-finish result.
After a brief delay, Koby Keeping was declared the winner.
Dalgety claimed second, with Shout Out Shazam finishing third.
All I See Claims Futurity Glory
FAVOURITE All I See ($3.10) made amends for her heat defeat with a determined victory in the Group Three Ipswich Futurity Final.
The David Geall-trained chaser wasted little time stamping her authority on the contest, bursting from the boxes to seize the early lead.
All I See found another gear in the home straight when it mattered most, kicking clear to claim victory from her challengers.
