LEGACY House is preparing to unveil a fresh new outdoor space on July 1, following a major clean-up and beautification effort supported by Army reservists from Amberley and funded in part through a State Government grant.
The project was launched after recent fencing works left the gardens surrounding the property damaged and untidy, prompting the need for a more welcoming and secure waiting area for women using the facility.
Legacy Club of Ipswich President Donna Reggett said the transformation had already made a significant difference for residents and visitors.
“After the fencing works, the gardens were left in a pretty difficult state, so we wanted to create something welcoming and comfortable for the ladies who are waiting for taxis or lifts,” she said.
Thanks to the efforts of reservists from the 11th Brigade, the outdoor areas have undergone a remarkable makeover in recent weeks.
“The support from the Army reservists has been absolutely incredible. They stepped in without hesitation and worked tirelessly to help restore the grounds,” Ms Reggett said.
Sergeant Ty Fergus from 11th Engineer Regiment said being involved in the Legacy House project was rewarding for our soldiers.
“It was about more than just a garden makeover; it was about giving back to a community that has given so much, particularly the veterans’ families and war widows supported by Legacy,” Sergeant Fergus said.
“Legacy plays a vital role in our region, and knowing we’ve helped create a safer, more welcoming space makes us very proud.
“For us, this is what service is about: supporting the community and standing by those who’ve served before us.”
