LIONS FC have delivered a statement of intent in the Australian Championship, producing a stunning second-half comeback to overpower Wollongong Wolves 3-1 at Macedonia Park on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing midway through the second half, the Queensland outfit unleashed a devastating attacking response, scoring three unanswered goals in just 29 minutes to secure a memorable interstate victory and strengthen their push towards the knockout finals.
The Wolves howled with the first goal of the match in the 54th minute, with the Lions hitting the crucial equaliser five minutes later.
Growing increasingly dangerous in attack, Lions seized control of the contest and completed their remarkable turnaround in the 79th minute, finding the breakthrough to establish a 2-1 advantage.
Rather than retreating into defence, the Queenslanders continued to press forward, delivering the knockout blow in the 88th minute to extinguish any hopes of a Wolves revival.
The victory marked a second consecutive triumph for Lions, who have responded impressively since opening their campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat to South Hobart.
Following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Preston Lions in Round 2, Saturday’s performance showcased the resilience, attacking firepower and growing confidence within the Queensland outfit.
With six points from their opening three matches and three group-stage rounds remaining, Lions have firmly established themselves as contenders for a place in the knockout finals.
The Queenslanders now face a crucial Round 4 showdown against South Hobart in Hobart this Sunday at 2pm, determined to avenge their opening-round defeat and extend their winning streak to three matches.
