LOCAL Ipswich News has officially welcomed a new owner, with long-time businessman Warren Pryde (pictured) taking the reins from outgoing publisher David Johnston.

Mr Pryde, who has lived in South East Queensland for more than 35 years and operates several successful small businesses in the region.

“Local news, events and sport matter to our community – and we’re going to keep delivering that with passion and purpose,” Mr Pryde said. “I’m proud to be stepping into this role and carrying on that legacy.”

He said that while the media landscape was rapidly shifting, there was still a critical place for regional printed newspapers.

“A printed paper in your hand is still powerful – it’s personal, it’s local, and it builds community.”

Mr Pryde paid tribute to Mr Johnston, who launched the paper in March 2021.

“David has done an exceptional job keeping local journalism alive and thriving in Ipswich,” he said.

Mr Johnston said he was pleased to pass the baton to someone who shared his passion for the region and for community reporting.

Clarion Award winner Brian Bennion also joins the team this week as the new Editor of Local Ipswich News.
