MEN’S health often takes a back seat, but this March, the West Moreton Health Foundation (WMHF) is putting it front and centre.

Supporting safe, quality healthcare across Ipswich, Somerset, Scenic Rim, and the Lockyer Valley, the Foundation relies on the generosity of locals, community groups, and corporate partners to fund vital programs through donations, events, and appeals.

Men in the region face disproportionately poorer health outcomes, often linked to lower awareness, delayed care, and reluctance to seek help early.

The ripple effect reaches beyond the individual, touching families, workplaces, and the broader community.

By raising awareness and funds, WMHF is encouraging men to take charge of their wellbeing and fostering a culture where health comes first.

CEO Scott Young said the Foundation was proud to champion initiatives that raise both awareness and support for men’s health.

“Men continue to face higher rates of preventable illness and poorer health outcomes, often because concerns go unspoken or support is sought too late,” he said.

“Addressing this gap is critical – not just for individuals, but for the strength of families, workplaces, and communities.

“We’re grateful to the local organisations partnering with us to deliver events across the city this month.

“Their involvement helps spark conversations, reduce stigma, and encourage men to take proactive steps for their health.

“Through these efforts, we can support vital research, invest in local healthcare equipment, and improve outcomes close to home.”

The campaign kicks off with the Charity Launch Breakfast at Club Parkview on Wednesday, March 4.

Guests will enjoy a plated breakfast, lucky door prizes, raffles, and a keynote address by Professor Jeff Dunn, a leading figure in cancer research and survival.

Despite being diagnosed in 2022 with the rare Mantle Cell Lymphoma, he continues to champion the needs
of cancer survivors worldwide.

On Friday, March 6, The Q will host an exclusive long lunch with rugby league icon Allan (Alfie) Langer, in partnership with Rugby League Ipswich.

The Men’s Health Luncheon at Club Services Ipswich on Friday, March 20 promises an inspiring afternoon dedicated to men’s wellbeing where guests will enjoy a two-course lunch, live entertainment, raffles, and lucky door prizes.

The event aims to spark conversations and provide tangible support for men and their families.

Closing out Men’s Health Month, the Charity Golf Day at Wolston Park Golf Club on Thursday, March 26 invites the community to “take a swing” at improving men’s health.

Organised by Club Parkview, the day features 18 holes in a four-player Ambrose format, novelty holes, prizes, and a 7am shotgun start, with lunch, presentations, and guest speakers rounding out the day.

It’s a playful reminder that it takes courage to tackle men’s health – and this community-driven event makes doing good a lot of fun.

This March, West Moreton is coming together to shine a spotlight on men’s health.

From breakfasts and luncheons to golf and sporting celebrations, there’s something for everyone.
