MUTDAPILLY has emerged as Ipswich’s safest suburb, recording just two offences in the past year – the lowest crime tally anywhere in the city.

The semi-rural locality was followed by Moores Pocket with 21 offences, Pine Mountain with 31 and Amberley with 33, highlighting a clear divide between Ipswich’s quiet rural fringes and its fast-growing urban corridors.

Other low-crime areas included Riverview (402 offences), Yamanto (410), Bellbird Park (457) and Collingwood Park (469), all recording significantly fewer incidents than Ipswich’s worst-affected suburbs.

In stark contrast, several high-density suburbs recorded hundreds – and in some cases thousands – of offences over the year.

Bundamba logged 591 crimes, while Brassall recorded 726.

Booval passed the 1000 mark with 1016 offences, followed by Redbank (1163), Springfield (1300) and Goodna (1455).

Redbank Plains topped the list, recording 1870 offences – the highest crime tally in the city.

Police data shows crime remains heavily concentrated in Ipswich’s most populated suburbs, particularly those with major transport corridors, shopping precincts and higher-density housing.

Located about 22km south-west of the Ipswich CBD, Mutdapilly is home to just 308 residents and is characterised by grazing land, winding creeks and a quiet, low-density lifestyle.

The suburb’s two recorded offences were a traffic-related offence on December 9 and a theft offence on August 21.

Paul Martin, founder and CEO of Summer Land Camels, Australia’s biggest commercial camel farm based in Mutdapilly, said the statistics spoke volumes for the area.

“Great news for Mutdapilly,” he said.

“Being on the boundary of Ipswich and Scenic Rim, it is probably the furthest suburb from the Ipswich CBD but is still great to maintain that rural lifestyle.”

Owner of the Grand Haven Pet Resort and Mutdapilly resident, Shae Sanders said the town had grown with the community coming together to limit crime in the area.

“Our small community is built by hard-working families, business owners, single mothers and salt of the earth, generational farmers and senior citizens,” she said.

“When I first moved to the area there were a number of B&Es, thefts and unexplained animal/stock deaths/missing reports.

“Our community banded together and a few women in the community created an awareness “get to know each other” meetings and clearly, by the crime reports, has worked.

“It brought us closer together as a small community while simultaneously strengthening the neighbourhood and small business bond between the families here.

“The small community of Mutdapilly is reliant on everyone’s good nature and honesty for our livelihood.”

Queensland Police Service figures show more than 19,500 offences were recorded across Ipswich between January 5, 2025, and January 8, 2026.
