HIGH-PROFILE councillor Nicole Jonic has gone on record to say she will not be contesting the mayoral election in March next year.
The first-term councillor said she had been approached by many people to make a bid for the top role and had thought seriously about putting her name forward.
While she said she wouldn’t go for mayor she did confirm she would be putting her hand up to continue as a councillor representing Division Two which includes the key growth area of Springfield.
“Despite the turmoil I’ve had to endure in my current position I still enjoy working for the community and as such want to push on,” she said.
“We have lots to do to guide this community forward as more and people call Ipswich home.
“I nominated three years ago because I wanted to help in making this a great place to live and I have only just started.
“I would hope that I have the chance in the future to take on the top role, but at this point I still have a lot to learn about local government and I also want to remain at the grass roots level talking directly to residents in division two.”
Cr Jonic has been the subject of threatening anonymous letters and inside council complaints in the past few years.
Besides having two whistle blower letters sent to the media as well as all councillors Cr Jonic also received letters at her home containing burnt black feathers.
The feathers are recognised as a warning that something bad is about to happen to the recipient.
The police investigations into who is behind the letters are ongoing.
