IT’S not every day that a touring Australian rugby league team visits our city.
Tuesday afternoon with little notice, Mal Meninga and 20 current NRL stars trained at the North Ipswich Reserve before taking time to sign autographs and get photos with hundreds of appreciative locals.
Well done to the players and officials for allowing our city to host the team for a training session before they headed over to PNG for their international clash.
The Broncos were at their best in the 90s when guided around the paddock by two of our favourite sons in Alfie Langer and Kevin Walters.
Now 20 years on and Kevvie is coaching the team, and Alfie is the on field coach running water and giving instructions on the field.
Let’s hope they can guide the Broncos to lift the NRL Premiership trophy this weekend.

Flower Spectacular
Brian Heath and the team from Ipswich Bromeliad Society and Ipswich Orchid Society always put on an amazing display at the Ipswich Garden Spectacular which is held each year at Silkstone State School.
It was a great showcase this year with more than 400 outstanding orchids on show in that section alone.
Orchid growing expert, Dr Des was on hand and more than a thousand attended the show over the two days.
The grand champion orchid was exhibited by Paul Smith.

Blacksnake Festival
Our city has many amazing volunteers and the Marburg Blacksnake Creek Festival is testament to the Marburg and District Resident’s Association who stage a great event each year.
Markets, entertainment art and history are the flavour of the day attracting thousands of visitors to the historic town of Marburg.

Salvos expand
Speaking of volunteers, the Salvos do an amazing work in our city helping the vulnerable and marginalised get on their feet, bringing hope and dignity to broken lives.
The Ipswich Salvation Army has just put in a development application to expand their CBD centre.
The building design will update their old facilities and will also incorporate greenspace areas.

Crimestoppers
We are in the season for AGMs and last week, Crimestoppers reflected on their successful year, raising funds to support the cause and raising awareness of the anonymous hotline of 1800 333 000 to assist QPS in the fight against crime.
Keith, Brit and Cam were elected to the executive for another year.
