THE Christmas lights have been pulled out of the storage boxes, dusted off and tested and now it’s time for the city’s merriest homes, suburbs and businesses to burst into life.
Council is doing its bit to promote festivities and this year will offer $8000 in prizes for the City of Ipswich Christmas Lights Competition.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said it was fantastic to see so many homes and businesses already getting into the festive spirit with unmissable Christmas lights displays popping up across the city.
Ipswich residents and business owners go to great lengths to create uplifting Christmas displays that transform streets and shopfronts into merry wonderlands and this year the displays should be even bigger.
Cr Nicole Jonic said more than 80 homes, businesses and streets were expected to enter a festive display for the annual competition.
“By decorating our homes, yards, decks, roofs and fences we help share the season’s wonderful spirit and colour with our community and visitors to Ipswich,” Cr Jonic said.
Free entries for the competition close Monday, November 28, and entrants can win a share in over $8000 worth of cash and prizes.
