URBAN Utilities has started work on a $9.4m project to build a new water pump station in Ipswich, to help cater for future growth in the area.
The new pump station is being built near Mount Juillerat Drive and School Road in Redbank Plains, where the population is expected to increase from 10,000 to 30,000 by 2045.
Urban Utilities Emily Arnold said the project would enhance water service reliability both now and into the future.
“The city of Ipswich is growing and we’re delivering essential water infrastructure to cater for that growth,” she said.
“It’s important we build for the future so we can continue to provide safe and reliable water services for our customers.
“The new water pump station will not only supply water to Redbank Plains, but also the new Whiterock development in Ripley Valley and the Swanbank industrial area.”
The project, which will also provide water to beverage giant Frucor Suntory’s planned manufacturing facility, under construction at Swanbank.
Ms Arnold said Urban Utilities and their delivery partner, Downer WSP, would work to minimise any potential customer impacts as much as possible throughout the works.
“We urge everyone to be aware there will be some changed traffic conditions during the project,” she said.
“We thank residents and businesses for their ongoing patience while we complete this important project for the Redbank Plains community.”
The project is expected to be completed by November.
