IPSWICH is known for being one of Queensland’s most sports-crazy communities, and local fans will have plenty to cheer about next year, with the State Government unveiling an eight-hour, multi-code sporting spectacular as the centrepiece of Queensland Day on Saturday, June 6.

The mega day of sport promises to thrill sports lovers across Ipswich and the state, uniting fans through four blockbuster fixtures across the AFL, NRL and Super Netball.

Designed to celebrate Queensland’s passion for competition and community spirit, the program forms part of the Crisafulli Government’s renewed vision to make Queensland Day bigger, bolder and more meaningful for every region.

The action begins with an AFL Q-Clash featuring the Gold Coast Suns and reigning premiers the Brisbane Lions at People First Stadium at 5.15pm.

Minutes later, the NRL takes centre stage with a double-header: the North Queensland Cowboys will face the Dolphins in Townsville from 5.30pm, followed by the Brisbane Broncos hosting the Gold Coast Titans at Suncorp Stadium at 7.30pm.

Adding to the statewide rivalry, the Queensland Firebirds and Sunshine Coast Lightning will go head-to-head in a Super Netball derby at Nissan Arena from 7pm –perfect viewing for Ipswich’s strong netball community.

Sport and Racing Minister and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said the clashes showcased Queenslanders’ shared love of sport.

“These derbies on home soil highlight who we are –competitive, passionate and proud.”

The AFL, NRL and Netball Australia have all backed the Queensland Day spectacular, praising the collaboration and the opportunity to shine a spotlight on Queensland talent, venues and supporters.

The sporting showcase will form part of a broader Queensland Day program, yet to be unveiled.
