THE Queensland Greyhound Racing Club has marked a milestone with its first Annual General Meeting, drawing a strong turnout and setting the tone for an ambitious year ahead.

Chairman David Nugent said he was pleased with the inaugural meeting and optimistic about the direction of the club as it heads into 2026.

“The first AGM went really well – we had 25 members in attendance,” he said.

“There wasn’t much on the agenda, just presenting last year’s accounts, reappointing auditors and taking care of basic governance matters.”

Following the formalities, members took part in a Q&A session, raising questions about development plans and future initiatives.

Mr Nugent said those discussions would help guide the club’s priorities over the next 12 months.

He said one of the club’s key goals was continuing to grow its membership base while maintaining strong community engagement.

“We need to keep improving where we can and continue to welcome new members,” he said.

“We are over 5000 members now, so we’re pretty happy with that.”

He said the club would keep building its community presence, having already contributed to several local organisations.

“I want to see us continue our work in the community,” Mr Nugent said.

“We’ve already made some great donations to some pretty important groups, sponsors and local sporting clubs.”

Looking ahead, Mr Nugent confirmed the club had several upgrades in its sights.

“We’ll be looking to expand the sports bar option downstairs in the clubhouse – that’s something that’ll be exciting to do,” he said.

“We also want to start exploring options for an on-site vet clinic to help care for the animals.”
