THE State Government has announced $31.1 million in additional funding to enhance high-visibility police operations in crime hotspots across Queensland.
The funding aims to disrupt and deter crime, with increased patrols at shopping centres, retail and restaurant precincts, service stations and other public spaces.
“We promised Queenslanders we would bolster our police service, and that’s exactly what we are doing,” Minister for Police and Emergency Services Dan Purdie said.
The investment includes $25 million for high-visibility patrols and $6.1 million for proactive Police Liaison Officers.
Officers will be deployed through marked cars, mobile police beats and foot patrols.
The move builds on the Government’s expansion of the State Flying Squad, which has already charged hundreds of offenders, and the permanent establishment of the Youth Crime Taskforce to target repeat youth offenders.
“Every day, frontline police work hard to protect our community; this additional funding allows officers to conduct more proactive patrols and saturate emerging crime hotspots,” Assistant Commissioner Brett Schafferius said.
The initiative is part of the Government’s broader crime crackdown, including the Adult Crime, Adult Time policy to hold serious repeat offenders accountable.
“This funding not only strengthens police presence but also encourages community engagement,” Mr Purdie said.
