IT will be game on for teams using Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve, with new dugouts set to be built on two ovals following approval through Ipswich City Council’s Provisional Projects sub-program.

Division 1 Councillor Pye Augustine said three sets of dugouts, at a total cost of $225,000, will be constructed at Peter Phelan Memorial Oval, while Kevin Bull Oval will receive two sets, all complete with concrete slabs.

“These shelters will provide shade and protection from the weather, along with a designated space for players and staff during games and training,” Cr Augustine said.

“The project also strengthens Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve as a hub for community activity.

“As Ipswich continues to grow at an unprecedented rate, Council is working to keep up with demand for infrastructure – whether that’s on our roads or on our sporting fields.”

Division 1 Councillor Jacob Madsen said the projects will be funded through the Provisional Projects sub-program within council’s Capital Works Program and respond directly to community requests.

“These projects demonstrate Council’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports healthy and active lifestyles,” Cr Madsen said.

“The teams using these fields will greatly benefit from the new shelters. No matter what sport you’re playing, you need an area for reserves, coaches, managers and support staff – and these dugouts will provide comfortable, practical spaces for exactly that.

“They are long-awaited projects requested by the community, and Council is proud to be delivering them.”
