The State Government announced last week that a permanent police presence is not the best option for Town Square at Redbank Plains.
This is following the removal of a temporary mobile police beat.
The calls for the permanent base at the shopping centre have increased following the passing of Vyleen White.
Mrs White tragically lost her life at the complex last month.
Vyleen’s husband Victor said.
“If there are more police in the area, there is going to be more crime prevention.”
Police Minister Mark Ryan responded to the calls saying that the Queensland Police Service had announced increased staffing and services.
“There are 40 extra cops and 10 new police cars for the Ipswich region,” he said.
He further commented that:
“If police requested that a beat be established at the shopping centre the government would give that request every consideration,”
Police Minister Mark Ryan said:
“However, police have advised that this is not the best way forward.
“Instead, Ipswich police requested more Mobile Police Beats and further personnel.”
Minister for Training and Skills Development and State Member for Bundamba, Lance McCallum commented on the Government’s plan to address the community’s safety concerns.
“The Miles Government listens to both police and our local community and is delivering record police resources for Ipswich,” McCallum said.
“The government is delivering an additional 47 personnel, two additional Mobile Police Beats and ten additional police vehicles for the Ipswich Police District.
This is backed by the biggest investment in policing in more than 30 years and it will deliver an extra 2,025 police.”
